The Erg Chebbi Dunes
Merzouga
Merzouga is a small village in south-eastern Morocco at the foot of Erg Chebbi, a sea of orange dunes that rise to about 150 metres. Travellers come for the sunset camel ride into the dunes, the silence of the desert at night, and the market and ksour of nearby Rissani. Our group trip leaves Agadir by coach in the evening and stops at Rissani, Tinghir and the Todgha Gorges.
Trip highlights
- Sunset camel ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes
- Rissani market and the old ksour of the Tafilalet
- The Todgha Gorges near Tinghir on the way back
Getting there
Merzouga is about 35 km south of Rissani and roughly ten hours by road from Agadir. Our group trip leaves by overnight coach from Agadir, Inezgane, Taroudant or Marrakech.
Good to know
Desert nights are cold from November to February, even after a warm day: bring a warm layer, a scarf against the sand and sunglasses.
