Chefchaouen
The Blue Pearl

Chefchaouen

Tucked into a fold of the Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen is a labyrinth of indigo lanes, hand-carved doors and hillside kasbahs. Mornings begin with mint tea on Place Outa el Hammam and end with sunset from the Spanish Mosque.

Trip highlights

  • Blue medina photo walk at first light
  • Ras El Maa spring & Spanish Mosque sunset
  • Weaving cooperative & goat-cheese tasting

Getting there

Located approximately 115 km southeast of Tangier, the scenic drive through the Rif Mountains takes between 1h50 and 2h30 by road (bus or car).

Good to know

Best explored on a weekday morning before day-tripper buses arrive, when the quiet blue alleys and morning mountain light are at their most atmospheric.
